On 3 November 1924 Bulgaria recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 26 August 1991 Bulgaria recognized the restored independent Republic of Lithuania.
On 10 September 1991, diplomatic relations were established.
From 1996 to 2000, Antanas Valionis served as the first Ambassador after the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence (resided in Poland).
From 1999 to 2001, Alexander Yordanov served as the first Ambassador of Bulgaria to Lithuania (resided in Poland).
